Funding Options – ESSER Funds

Congratulations, Reading Superstars! Your school just made the greatest decision they’ll make all year—by purchasing Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine! Now it’s time to come up with fundraising ideas. Some schools sell pizza. Others do baked goods or car washes. But have you applied for ESSER funds?

What are Esser Funds?

Get ready to dive into the fantastic world of the ESSER Fund – that’s short for Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief Fund, but let’s just call it the “Awesome Aid” for now! 🌟

So, here’s the scoop: imagine a superhero team-up between the State educational agencies (SEAs) and the local educational agencies (LEAs). They’re teaming up to tackle the crazy curveballs that COVID-19 threw at our beloved elementary and secondary schools across the Nation.

The SEAs are like the captains of the team, and they’re handing out subgrants to the LEAs, your local champs on the ground. Together, they’re on a mission to make sure our schools get back on track with funding and a heart full of determination.

Individual School districts (LEAs) must apply to their relevant SEA. For example, a SEA may be called the “[State name] Department of Education” or the “[State name] Office of Public Instruction”.  Every SEA must use at least 90 percent of its ESSER Fund grant to make subgrants to LEAs. It’s like a blockbuster movie where education takes center stage and saves the day! 🎬📚

So there you have it, the ESSER Fund, the hero schools never knew they needed, swooping in to save the day and make learning a total blast. Go ESSER! 🚀📚🎉

What can you use Esser funds for?

But here’s the cool part: ESSER funds are like a superhero squad for the students who need it most. We’re talking about English language learners, students with disabilities, those who come from low-income families, different racial and ethnic backgrounds, kids in foster care, those without homes, and even students in rural areas. These funds are even available for a book vending machine.

When it comes to using these funds, schools have a bunch of options. They can train their teachers like superheroes with professional development, give students cool tech gadgets, create extra learning fun, boost mental health support, provide tutoring, and way more. It’s like a buffet of awesomeness for education!

Now, here’s the deal: schools need to use these funds wisely and follow the rules set by the big bosses in the federal government. Think of it like a super mission to spend the money right and show the receipts. Schools need to keep track of every cent and show how it’s making students’ lives better. It’s like being the hero of budget management!
