(Jurupa Valley, CA) Sunnyslope Elementary School students are getting excited about a new addition to their school. The staff have introduced an innovative initiative – Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine. Jurupa Unified School District has made literacy a priority by installing Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machines across the district campus’.

What is Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine?

Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine dispenses books instead of snacks or drinks. It helps kids get excited about reading by offering lots of different books. The excitement is in picking what they want to read. In the Jurupa Valley District, kids are all about the choice!

Alignment with Jurupa Valley’s PBIS Initiatives:

This initiative directly supports Jurupa Valley’s PBIS goals by reinforcing positive behavior through a reward-based system. Students earn tokens or rewards for demonstrating good behavior. Then they use tokens to vend a book from Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine. This reinforces positive conduct while fostering a love for reading.

“As our district here at Jurupa, we are fully committed to early literacy and we want to invest in ways to cultivate that love for learning,” said JUSD Superintendent Dr. Trenton Hansen.

Funding for the Machine

Each Jurupa Unified School District elementary campus is receiving a book vending machine as part of the district’s Literacy Without Limits campaign.

Before the ribbon cutting, school and district officials spoke to the crowd of students, parents and employees.

Jurupa schools are “fully committed to early literacy, and we want to invest in ways to cultivate that love for learning, and cultivate the love for reading and writing in our schools, among our students,” Superintendent Trenton Hansen said.

Excitement Around Reading In Jurupa Valley

The introduction of this vending machine has sparked enthusiasm among students. It creates a buzz around reading, making it a rewarding and enjoyable activity. By providing easy access to an array of captivating books, the machine stimulates curiosity and excitement, motivating students to explore new stories and genres.

“You’re still at that age where imagination and fun are possible and is the key to anything in your life. You can be whatever you want when you’re reading and that’s the great thing I love about books,” said JUSD President Joseph Navarro.

Invest In Your Student Too

Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine is not just a vending machine; it’s a gateway to a world of imagination and knowledge. By integrating reading incentives with PBIS initiatives, schools continue to foster a positive and enriching environment for students to thrive academically and emotionally.
