The East Palestine School District just introduced two exciting additions to its campuses. Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine! Now, these machines won’t dispense snacks or candy. Instead, they’re stocked with brand-new books. The initiative aligns with the district’s Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS) system.

East Palestine Schools Gets Generous Donation and Collaborative Efforts

The PTO has Norfolk Southern to thank. The organization generously donated two book vending machines. First to East Palestine Elementary School and then East Palestine Middle School. The goal is to ignite excitement for reading while reinforcing students’ positive behavior.

East Palestine Schools Expressing Excitement and Gratitude

PTO Representative, Allison Oltmann, expressed immense excitement, stating, “We are thrilled about our book vending machines and eagerly anticipate the kids earning the chance to use them.” She extended gratitude to Norfolk Southern for embracing their concept and acknowledging it’s signifigance. Oltmann emphasized the impact will extend beyond books. She believes it will influence positive behavior and inspire students.

Tokens

Now, students earn tokens by demonstrating good behavior and performing acts of kindness. Tokens are then used to vend a book of the student’s choice. So, Norfolk Southern kickstarted the program by supplying the initial stock of books. The PTO pledged continued support by purchasing books for the vending machines in the future.
