Students at Chief Payepot School gathered to see a new way for students to get excited about reading. Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine fills the void left when the school library had to be turned into classroom space.

From Library to Vending Machine

Principal Nicole Crowe said the vending machines offer an exciting way to promote literacy and a love for reading.

Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine vending machines operates on a reward system. Students receive gold tokens to celebrate achievements, milestones, or for creating an inclusive and encouraging environment.

“When we did have a library it played a big role, we had a lot of programming that came out of there. I think this is a new, exciting way to really promote literacy and love of reading,” says Principal Crowe.

Chief Payepot School Celebrating Indigenous Voices

Principal Crowe is proud the vending machine will focus on indigenous authors.

Indigenous author Heather O’Watch was on hand and had this to say;

“I know the community, but specifically the school, doesn’t necessarily have accessibility to books. It’s a very special moment for the partners but also for the community,”

O’Watch’s story “Auntie’s Rez Surprise,” was the first vended from Chief Payepot’s machine.

A Big Thank You To The Sponsors

Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine was made possible by a community collaboration. United Way Regina, FHQ Developments, and K+S Potash Canada generously partnered for this donation.
