(Dallas, TX) Whataburger and the Dallas Education Foundation have teamed up to get kids excited about reading. Together the organizations have sponsored Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine for Hotchkiss Elementary.. So, as part of Whataburgers “Feeding Student Success” program, this exciting addition aims to encourage literacy, support the school’s PBIS efforts, and ignite a passion for reading among students.

What is Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine?

Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine dispenses books instead of snacks or drinks. It helps kids get excited about reading by offering lots of different books. The excitement is in picking what they want to read. At Cedar Springs Elementary, kids are all about the choice!

“We know that putting books into the hands and homes of students is a game changer,” says Emily Davis, Development and Grants Manager at the Dallas Education Foundation. “This book vending machine not only makes books accessible, but it also empowers our students to select a culturally relevant book that resonates with their interests and experiences. We are grateful to Whataburger for their continued partnership and support of Dallas ISD students.”

Alignment with School PBIS Initiatives:

This initiative directly supports Hotchkiss Elementary School’s PBIS goals by reinforcing positive behavior through a reward-based system. Students earn tokens or rewards for demonstrating good behavior. Students use the tokens to vend a book from Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine. This reinforces positive conduct while fostering a love for reading.

So, Whataburger and the Dallas Education Foundation have teamed up to make this happen for the students at Hotchkiss Elementary.

Principal Maria Puentemejia of Hotchkiss Elementary expressed her enthusiasm for the project,

“We are thrilled to have the support of Whataburger and the Dallas Education Foundation in our mission to enhance literacy. Having a book vending machine on campus is like having a treasure chest for our students – every book they take home is a seed planted for their future success. It’s initiatives like these that truly enrich our educational programs and ignite a lifelong passion for reading in our students.”

By providing easier and more equitable access to books, Whataburger and the Dallas Education Foundation are making a real difference in the lives of Hotchkiss Elementary students.

Then, Travis Hill from Whataburger adds,

“At Whataburger, we believe in the transformative power of education and are committed to supporting our communities in meaningful ways. Through Whataburger Feeding Student Success, we’re dedicated to addressing challenges like food insecurity and educational barriers.
