Lamar Elementary Book Vending Machine

Hey there, Bookworms! We’ve got some exciting news to share from Lamar Elementary. It’s about grants, learning beyond the classroom, and Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine! Let’s dive in and explore this world of education and imagination.

A Surprise is “Grant-ed” to Lamar Elementary

Imagine you’re a teacher who suddenly discovers they have extra funds. Would you seize the chance to make your creative ideas a reality? Well, that’s what happened at Lamar Elementary. Teacher Kenna Brandt received a grant that will greatly impact her students’ lives.

Teacher Kenna Brandt is awarded a grant check from the Simmons Bank Foundation representatives.

Simmons Bank Community Grant – Making Dreams a Reality

Kenna was presented with a $10,000.00 check by Simmons First Bank. The Simmons First Foundation Educational Grant Program supports youth access to healthcare and education. Additionally, it makes dreams a reality for teachers and students alike.

Lamar’s Literary Dream – The Bookworm Vending Machine

Kenna had a fantastic idea – introduce Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine to Lamar Elementary. That’s right. It’s a vending machine. But rather than sweet and salty snacks, it’s stocked with books. Students earn books by receiving golden tokens. A token means recognition for good behavior, grades, and attendance. With their tokens, students get to choose their favorite books from the vending machine. The goal? To make reading an exciting adventure. Kenna wants to spark kids’ desire to dive into the world of stories and knowledge.

Brandt shared her excitement, saying, “This means a lot to us. The kids are going to be so excited. We’ve tried to keep it a secret because we didn’t want to disappoint kids if we didn’t get the grant. The teachers are going to be very excited. We’re always trying to think of new and creative ways to help our students in any way that we can. I don’t just write grants for myself. I always try to think about what our whole school can benefit from. And this is definitely going to be that for sure. We appreciate the foundation.”
